The City of Meridian will host its second Household Hazardous Waste Day this year on Sept. 29, allowing residents to dump their hazardous wastes for free.
The day, covered by a grant from Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, will cost $25,000.
Residents will be able to drop off old paint, oils, tires, batteries and other items that can’t be disposed of with normal trash service. Drop off locations will be at the Public Works complex, off of 29th Ave., and the bowling alley on North Hills Street.
Hugh Smith, the director of Public Works, said a service would be organized to pick up items for elderly citizens.
