Police have released the identify of a man found shot to death early Wednesday morning in Meridian.

The body of Prince Gardner, 28, of McComb, was found around 8 a.m. Wednesday in a neighborhood near the intersection of 42nd Avenue and 36th Street, according to Meridian police

The body was found with a gunshot wound to the head, but Gardner may have also been beaten, Meridian Police spokesman Sgt. Dareall Thompson said. The body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Thompson said that no suspects had been named as of Friday afternoon.

“After we get the autopsy report we’ll be able to give more details,” Thompson said.

This is the eighth reported homicide in Meridian in 2018.
