Dual credit high school students will be given a glimpse into college life at East Central Community College’s first Preview Day at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, on its Decatur campus.
The day will begin at 1:30 p.m. with sign-in at Huff Auditorium, though students may arrive as early as 11:30 a.m. to have their student ID cards made in the Student Services Office of the Smith Student Union Building. Students will be welcomed after sign-in by ECCC President Billy Stewart and will learn about the benefits of being an East Central dual-credit student. The day will conclude with an ice cream social event.
More than 400 high school students in 16 high schools within ECCC’s five-county district of Leake, Newton, Neshoba, Scott and Winston are enrolled in ECCC this fall through taking dual-credit courses.
These courses, including subjects such as English, college algebra and history, are taught by certified local high school teachers who are qualified to teach a particular course, using the same syllabus and instructional materials that are used in classes taught on the East Central campus.
Students who successful complete dual-credit courses can earn up to 28 hours of academic credit toward degree completion at ECCC or at another public two-year or four-year college.
