Lauderdale County sets deadlines for tax collection

Lauderdale County will conduct a delinquent tax sale for 2017 unpaid taxes for a second consecutive year.
The sale is scheduled on Aug. 27, according to county tax collector Doris Spidle.
Key dates are:
July 31, last day to pay taxes with a personal or business check.
July 31, last day to pay so name will not appear in the newspaper as delinquent.
Aug. 3, no personal checks accepted; tax bill must be paid with cash, money order or credit card at the tax collector’s office, 500 Constitution Ave., Meridian, Room 101.
Aug. 6, names of delinquent taxpayers will appear in The Meridian Star.
Aug. 13, names of delinquent taxpayers will appear in The Meridian Star.
Aug. 17, last day to pay land tax by 5 p.m., no checks accepted.
Aug. 17, all unpaid taxes go to land sale, without exception.
Aug. 27, online tax sale begins at 8:30 a.m.
