• CLINTON — Dylan Miller of Meridian and Taylor Hathorn of Waynesboro were among students recognized at Mississippi College’s annual Honors Convocation to recognize students academic and service achievements within the university and community.

Miller received the Scholarship for Outstanding Service award, which is given to four undergraduate students who have made significant contributions to campus leadership and life outside of the Student Government Association.

Hathorn received the Psi Zeta Chapter Award, which is given annually to an outstanding senior English major who has been active in the local chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, international English honorary society. • TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama student Bradley Clark of Gilbertown is participating in UA’s Cooperative Education Program for summer 2018. Clark is be working at Marathon Equipment in Vernon.

In the Cooperative Education Program, more than 250 students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student, experience that enhances the students’ employment prospects after graduation.

While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.

• COLUMBUS – The following Meridian area students were among Class of 2018 graduates at The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS):

William Louis Palmer Johnson, formerly of Lamar High School, is the son of Sarah and Paul Johnson. He will attend Williams College in the fall, where he plans to study mathematics.

Emily Virginia King, formerly of Lamar School, is the daughter of Melanie and Robert King. She will attend Tulane University in the fall.

Gene Edward Kloss, formerly of Meridian High School, is the son of Kelly and John Raley. He will attend Florida Institute of Technology in the fall, where he plans to study computer engineering.

Sabrina Christine Solomon, formerly of Southeast Lauderdale High School, is the daughter of Leta Palmiter and Joseph Solomon. She will attend Belmont University in the fall, where she plans to study chemistry.

David Grant Thaggard, formerly of Clarkdale High School, is the son of Cheryl and Lee Thaggard. He will attend Mississippi State University in the fall, where he plans to study chemical engineering.

Mackenzie Gabrielle Wilson, formerly of Clarksdale High School, is the daughter of Casey Renolds. She will attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham in the fall.

MSMS is Mississippi’s nationally recognized residential high school for academically advanced eleventh and twelfth graders. Graduating classes have averaged $21 million in scholarship offers for the last five years; graduates attend universities all over Mississippi and the nation.

• TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The following Meridian area students were named to the President’s and Dean’s lists for the 2018 spring semester at the University of Alabama.

President’s List scholars have an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). Dean’s List scholars have an academic record of 3.5 or above.

President’s List — Haley Rena Su Bailey, William Carter Cope, Tatum Bradley Dye, Christopher Galen Hicks, Morgan A. Ross, Avery J. Watson and Connor L. Webb, all of Meridian, Mississippi; Margaret Ellen Moody of Butler; and Reagan Lynn Sandoz of Gilbertown.

Dean’s List — David C Majure III, Antonio Jose Padilla Denis and Hannah Marie Rogers, all of Meridian, Mississippi; AnnaLaura R. Campbell of Bailey, Mississippi; Natalie M. Lowry of Macon, Mississippi; Bilal Ameir Ahmad of Marion, Mississippi; and Caroline E. Wigley of Gilbertown.

RAYMOND — Charles Evans of Newton was named a President’s Scholar at Hinds Community College for the Spring 2018 semester.

President’s Scholars are those with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average.

TROY, Ala. — Madison Williams and Christopher Vincent, both of Meridian, Mississippi, recently graduated from Troy University.

Williams received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the College of Communication and Fine Arts during the spring 2018 semester at the Troy Campus.

Vincent received a master of science degree in Human Resource Management from the Sorrell College of Business during Term 4 of the 2017/2018 academic year. Term 4 includes students at TROY’s campuses in Dothan, Phenix City and Montgomery, Ala., along with teaching sites outside of Alabama and online.

TROY, Ala. — Hope Boykin of Butler has been named to the Chancellor’s List at Troy University for the spring semester/Term 4 of the 2017/2018 academic year.

The Chancellor’s List honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who earn a grade point average of 4.0.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The following area students were among awarded a record 1,240 degrees at Samford University’s Spring 2018 commencement ceremonies:

Jordan Smith of Meridian, Mississippi, graduated with a doctor of pharmacy summa cum laude in pharmacy.

Walter Tucker of Meridian graduated with a bachelor of science in pharmacy studies

Kayla Barnett and Brianna Lundy, both of Philadelphia, Mississippi. Barnett and Lundy graduated with a master of science in nursing in family nurse practitioner.

Marlee Sellers of Macon graduated with a master of science in nursing in family nurse practitioner

• RAYMOND — Several area students were named Deans’ Scholars at Hinds Community College for the Spring 2018 semester.

Deans’ Scholars are those students with a cumulative 3.5 to 3.9 grade point average.

The students are: Ayla Porter of Meridian; April Dade of Decatur; Tandy Breazeale, Ayana Jones, Donna Myers and Trever Myers, all of Philadelphia; Jeremy Ellis of Union; and Victoria Atkinson and Kamesha Cunningham, both of Waynesboro.

• WILKES-BARRE, Pa. —Bertha Sullivan of Meridian, Mssissippi, received a master of science degree in nursing from Wilkes University during spring commencement ceremonies.

• HARRISONBURG, Va. — Abigail Shelly of Collinsville, Mississippi, was recognized for a vice president for marketing of the Student Government Association during Eastern Mennonite University’s spring recognition chapel.

• HARRISONBURG, Va. — Silas Clymer and Abigail Shelly, both of Collinsville, Mississippi, were named to the Spring 2018 Dean’s List at Eastern Mennonite University.

The Dean’s List, compiled at the end of each term, includes degree-seeking students who achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.75 with no withdrawn, incomplete, or failing grades for 12 semester hours of standard grades.

• BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Caleigh E Smith of Butler was named to the fall 2017 Dean’s List at Samford University. Smith is a pre-pharmacy major.
