The Board of Supervisors on Monday approved the purchase of a new computer server.
This comes after a computer virus caused a weeklong shut down of Lauderdale County’s computer network in May.
“The good outcome of the virus attack is it helped us recognize room for improvement,” Lauderdale County Administrator Chris Lafferty told the board. Lafferty said the current system is “antiquated,” and the new system would help safeguard against future attacks.
A computer virus last week caused a shutdown of Lauderdale County’s computer network, but county officials say no one’s personal information was compromised.
Lafferty said Tuesday that the system, which has been down since May 22, should be restored and back online within the next few days.
The virus resulted in a temporary loss of information, but no county services were affected, Lafferty said in a previous report.
“We’ve recovered most of the information,” Lafferty said. “It’s just the cost of doing business in the 21st century.”
The new server will be purchased from Dell Network Solutions in the amount of $174,570.18. The board also approved the purchase of a secure cloud backup system from iland for $729.40 per month for 36 months.
In other action, the board approved:
• The purchase of an E911 PSAP Upgrade from ComSouth in the amount of $460,773.50
• An order accepting the motor vehicle schedule for fiscal year 2018-2019
