Choctaw Indian Fair returns with culture, competition, entertainment

The Choctaw Indian Fair returns this week from Wednesday through Saturday with it an assortment of culture, competition and family fun in Choctaw.
The theme for the 69th annual fair is “The Choctaw Spirit Lives On.”
The fair offers games, rides, food, live music, dancing, stickball, a pageant and much, beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Other events Wednesday include social dancing at 5 p.m. and an opening ceremony conducted by Chief Phyliss J. Anderson at 6 p.m. The princess pageant will start at 7 p.m. and the first day of the fair will conclude with a world series stickball game at 10:15 p.m.
The second day includes various animal exhibitions ruling the morning, featuring reptiles, birds and exotic creatures. Dancing continues in the afternoon and the evening will be highlighted by musical performances from Cody Jinks and Jamey Johnson followed by stickball at 10:15 p.m.
David Lynch is the featured entertainer Friday evening.
Saturday begins with the Rez Run at 7 a.m. and ends with music from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Day tickets and season passes are available. For kids, ages 6-17, tickets are $7 for a day and $10 for the season. Adult tickets are $12 a day and $20 for the season. Kids under 5 and Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians’ seniors get in free.
