A head-on collision in Lauderdale County killed a 20-weeks-pregnant woman and her baby Saturday evening and seriously injured two others.

Hailey Jones, 17, was the passenger in an accident on State Boulevard Extension Saturday night around 6 p.m., according to Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie.

Clayton Cobler, the Lauderdale County Coroner, confirmed the death of Jones and her child.

Sollie said the male driver and a female driver hit each other in a head-on collision, possibly when the male driver attempted to pass someone on the road.

The male driver may have had a broken back, Sollie said Sunday, but added that he hadn’t received accident updates since Saturday night.

Sollie said both drivers were treated for serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Evidence will be sent to the state crime lab for analysis, Sollie said.
