Two men suspected in an April 22 shooting incident that injured a Meridian basketball player waived their preliminary hearings on Thursday.
Devon J. Smith and Enriek M. Hall Jr., both 19, are charged with aggravated assault, shooting into a dwelling and shooting into a vehicle in connection with a shooting that occurred at a Waffle House on Highway 19 North.
Their bond amounts are set at $200,000 per count — down from $250,000 — for a total of $600,000 each.
Meanwhile, the victim, Meridian basketball player Miles Miller, continues to recover. Miller suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken via personal vehicle to a local hospital before police responded to the incident, which occurred about 12:45 a.m.
Police stopped a vehicle they believed was involved in the shooting, detaining four people for questioning and releasing each person.
Meridian Police Chief Benny Dubose, who was present in court on Thursday, declined to comment about the case.
“We do expect more arrests coming out of this event,” Meridian Police spokesman Dareall Thompson said at the time of the suspects’ arrests. “Some cases take a little longer because we want to make sure we have all of the information before we arrest them.”
