A 12-year-old injured in a shooting Monday died Tuesday after being transferred from a local hospital to a hospital in Jackson.

Meridian police said the wound appeared to be accidental and self-inflicted.

Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler confirmed that the child died in Jackson at 2:31 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said that officers received a call about a juvenile shot at the St. Francis apartments, in the 2400 block of 4th Avenue, just after noon on Monday.
