Prep softball: Choctaw Central advances to 3A semifinals

After falling to Columbia 7-5 in Game 2 Wednesday afternoon on the road, the Choctaw Central softball team came storming back in Game 3 to take a 16-4, series-clinching win.

In Game 2, Columbia scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off after the Lady Warriors entered the bottom of the frame with a 5-4 lead.

Leia Phillips finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Darien Tubby had a double, an RBI and a run scored. Iris Farve also had an RBI for Choctaw Central.

Farve pitched 6 2/3 innings in Game 2, giving up seven runs, none earned, on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. The Lady Warriors defense committed five errors behind her.

In Game 3, Choctaw Central tallied 13 hits and scored all 16 runs in the first five innings. The game was called after five due to the mercy rule.

Tia’Rain Saunders pitched all five innings for Choctaw Central, surrendering four runs on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Lachrisha Williams had a big Game 3 at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Tubby also went 2-for-4 with a double, triple, four RBIs and one run scored. Taelor York finished 3-for-4 with a triple and three runes scored. Maiya Joe and Phillips both doubled for the Lady Warriors.

Choctaw Central improved to 16-11 on the season and advanced to the Class 3A state semifinals, to be played this weekend.
