The Lady Raiders duo of Darby Gillette and Mary Claire Whitehead claimed the No. 2 doubles MAIS Class AAAA, Division II state championship, while the Lady Raiders as a team finished as runners-up.

Three other Lamar School tennis players reached the championship round. Isabella Durgin appeared in the girls No. 2 singles championship, while her sister, Ava Durgin, played in the girls No. 1 singles championship. Austin Carle reached the boys No. 2 singles championship.

“Just to get to the championship event is a pretty significant thing,” Lamar School tennis coach Bill Autry said. “I was just really pleased with how well they fought. (Thursday) was really freezing cold and windy, but what makes me most proud is the effort they give, and they’re such great representatives of the school and their families, and I’m just always proud of them. Coaches from the other teams come up and tell me how nice the Lamar players are, and that makes me happy. It’s a reflection the on the school, and they’re a really good group of hard-working young people.”
