Softball roundups: Enterprise earns sweep vs. Richton

Hannah Herrington pitched five shutout innings for Enterprise as the Lady Bulldogs completed the sweet of Richton with a 10-0 win Saturday afternoon in Game 2 of the first round of the MHSAA Class 2A playoffs.

Herrington surrendered just three hits and three walks while striking out three to get the win for Enterprise (16-6).
Offensively, Enterprise’s Haley Stockman went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and Sarah Brannan, Faith Guy and Maycee Knight were all 2-for-3. Knight had a double, while Brannan hit a triple.
With the win, Enterprise will face Enterprise-Lincoln in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
VANCLEAVE ELIMINATES WEST LAUDERDALE
Although West Lauderdale was able to hold on for a 1-0 win in Game 2 of the first round of the Class 4A playoffs Saturday at Vancleave, the Lady Bulldogs were able to come away with a 6-1 victory in Game 3 to eliminate the Lady Knights.
Lexie Smith pitched seven scoreless innings for West Lauderdale in Game 2, giving up just three hits while striking out three. Hailey Tally had West Lauderdale’s lone RBI on a single, and Kennedy Mayatt and Kellis Adams also had hits. Tally’s RBI single scored Adams.

In Game 3, Kennedy Mayatt went 3-for-3 for West Lauderdale, but Vancleave was able to tally eight hits and two walks to come away with the 6-1 win.
Tally and Smith also had hits for the Lady Knights. Smith suffered the loss on the mound, giving up four earned runs in six innings of work while striking out two and walking two.
West Lauderdale ended the season with a 12-9 record.
UNION WINS TWO, ADVANCES
After dropping Game 1 to Walnut Friday, the Lady Yellowjackets captured 10-0 and 6-3 wins on the road Saturday to advance to the second round of the Class 2A postseason.
In Game 2, Mackenzie Dolan and Lilly Burton both went 3-for-5 for Union, while Macy Lott and Anna Rigdon finished 2-for-4. Anna Grace Blount finished 2-for-3. Lott, Burton and Blount all doubled, and Dolan doubled twice. Lott and Burton also tripled.
Britli Cleveland pitched six innings in Game 2, giving up just one hit while striking out seven. The game was called after Union scored three runs in the top of the seventh to make it 10-0, triggering the 10-runs-after-five mercy rule.
In Game 3, Cleveland, Kaleigh Vance and Rigdon combined to pitch seven innings of three-run ball. Walnut managed three runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts, but the Lady Yellowjackets tallied six walks and three hits to capture the 6-3 win.
Dolan was Union’s only multiple hitter in Game 3, as she finished 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.
Union (12-11) will face Riverside in the second round. Riverside had a bye in the first round.
CHOCTAW CENTRAL 11, WEST MARION 1
Tia’Rain Saunders had another strong showing at the plate as she helped lead Choctaw Central past West Marion in Game 2 of the Class 3A playoffs Saturday.
With the win, Choctaw Central (12-9) advances to play Wesson in the second round. Wesson had a first-round bye.
Saunders finished 4-for-4 with three triples, a double and five RBIs for the Lady Warriors. Iris Farve and India Samuel also doubled for Choctaw Central. Darien Tubby went 2-for-3 for the Lady Warriors as their only other multiple hitter.
Farve pitched five innings for Choctaw Central, giving up one run on five hits while striking out one.
