A man was killed and a woman was injured in what authorities are calling a domestic situation in Clarke County Thursday afternoon. 

Barry White, Chief Deputy of the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, said the call came at 3:16 p.m. The incident occurred at a home in the Basic City community on Highway 11, near the Lauderdale -Clarke county line.  

White said the man’s body will be transported to the State Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy. The woman wounded in the shooting was transported to a hospital in Meridian but was alert at the time of transport, White said. 

The man’s name will be released Friday, White said, after notifying family. 

White described the situation as “domestic violence,” but declined to release more details.
