Prep baseball: Partridge, West hold off Northeast Lauderdale

On a night where the cold weather made it feel more like football season than baseball season, the West Lauderdale Knights used the hot pitching of Kameron Partridge to defeat the home-standing Northeast Lauderdale Trojans 10-2.
Partridge set the tone for the night by striking out the first eight batters he faced, and he continued to pitch masterfully throughout the game. At times, the Knight pitcher was unhittable, as he used a mixture of pitches to keep the Trojans off balance all night.
The Knights got the scoring started in the top of the second inning courtesy of a Partridge double down the right-field line. A single from Ben Ethridge drove in another run to build a 2-0 lead.
The game remained 2-0 until the fourth inning, as the Knights used a combination of a hit-by-pitch and good base running to stretch the lead to 3-0. The inning would continue as the Knights took advantage of a Trojan error to build the lead to 5-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Trojans got on the board courtesy of a solo home run by Brock Butler. The no-doubter cleared the fence in left and brought the home crowd to its feet.
The Knights put the game out of reach with a three-run top of the sixth inning. The Knights were able to string together multiple hits and took advantage of another Trojan error to stretch the lead to 8-1. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Trojans cut the Knight lead to 8-2 courtesy of a Butler single to right. The Trojans were threatening to add more before Partridge was able to induce an inning ending double play to end the rally.
The Knights added two insurance runs in the seventh inning courtesy of a Brett Mason double and a Trojan error to bring it to the final score of 10-2.
With the win, the Knights improved to 11-1 while the Trojans fell to 7-5 on the season. Both teams will return to action Friday night as they will play again in at 7 p.m. in Collinsville.
