• Dr. Jimmy Hollingsworth of Lake has been re-elected chairman of the East Central Community College Board of Trustees, while Jerry Smith of Philadelphia will again serve as vice chairman.

Hollingsworth and Smith were re-elected by acclamation to two-year terms at the December 2017 meeting of the ECCC Board of Trustees held on the campus in Decatur.
Smith, who was recently honored for 10 years of dedicated service to the college’s Board of Trustees, will be serving his fourth two-year term as vice chairman.
• BEREA, Kentucky — Katherine Collins of Meridian, Mississippi, received a bachelor of arts degree from Berea College on Dec. 20, 2017.
Berea, the first interracial and coeducational college in the South, focuses on learning, labor, and service. Supported by Berea’s No-Tuition Promise, Berea College admits only academically promising students with limited economic resources, primarily from Appalachia. All students must work 10 hours or more weekly, earning money for books, room and board. The College’s motto “God has made of one blood all peoples of the earth,” speaks to its inclusive character, and the quality of its programs ensures that graduates from Berea go on to distinguish themselves and the College in many fields.
• OXFORD — Ainsley Parker Ash of Meridian was one of 15 freshman during fall 2017 at the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College at the University of Mississippi who received a total of $466,000 from five of the university’s most distinguished scholarships.
Four of the freshmen earned McDonnell Barksdale Scholarships, six were recipients of Doris Raymond Honors Scholarships, two were awarded Harold Parker Memorial Scholarships, two were honored with Annexstad Family Foundation Leaders for Tomorrow Scholarships and one was presented with an Everett-Williams Memorial Scholarship.

Ash, is one of three recipients of the Doris Raymond Honors Scholarship. She is a graduate of West Lauderdale High School, where she was president of the student council (and four-year member of the council) and received awards in AP biology, Spanish and personal finance while being named to the National Honor Society. She also graduated from Leadership Lauderdale Youth and the Mississippi Governor’s School, and was an all-district cross country runner. Ash is majoring in psychology.
• TROY, Alabama — Hope Boykin of Butler has been named to the Provost’s List at Troy University for the Fall Semester/Term 2 of the 2017-18 academic year.
The Provost’s List honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who have a grade point average of at least 3.65.
• WILLIAMSBURG, Kentucky — In recognition of academic performance, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs at University of the Cumberlands (UC) has named Tracy Barnhill of Lauderdale, Mississippi, to the President’s List for the fall 2017 semester.
To be eligible for the President’s List, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.0, receive an “A” grade in UC Engage and be in good academic standing.
University of the Cumberlands is an institution of regional distinction offering quality undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and online degree programs.
• HARRISONBURG, Virginia — Silas Clymer and Abigail Shelly, both of Collinsville, were named to the Fall 2017 Dean’s List at Eastern Mennonite University.
The Dean’s List, compiled at the end of each term, includes degree-seeking students who achieve a semester GPA of at least 3.75 with no withdrawn, incomplete, or failing grades for 12 semester hours of standard grades.
A leader among faith-based, liberal arts universities since 1917, Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) emphasizes peacebuilding, sustainability, service to others, and social justice to students of diverse religious and cultural backgrounds.
• HATTIESBURG — The following area residents were among students at the University of Southern Mississippi named to the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the 2017 fall semester.
The President’s List includes full-time students who earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average (all As). Dean’s List scholars are those with at least a 3.5 grade point average, but less than a 4.0. Students recognized from the local area include the following:
