Local motorists can expect a new 110-foot express car wash to be up and running some time in April.

In the meantime, crews continue to work at the 1.1-acre site of Time 2 Shine Car Wash, located at 15th Place South and 2nd Street Street, across from Walmart.

“We started site prep five weeks ago,” co-owner Duane Shelby said. “But we’ve had some issues with the weather.”

Shelby said the car wash will be open seven days a week and have three or four employees on site “at all times.”

“We don’t know how many [employees] we’ll have total. When we get our manager lined up, it will be up to him,” Shelby said, adding that car-wash jobs would be ideal for local college students.

Shelby said he and his business partner Mac McKay purchased the property from Jackson-based Mattiace Properties in March 2017.

Since then, the City of Meridian has “bent over backwards” to help, he said.

“They’ve been great,” Shelby said. “They know what they’re doing.”

City of Meridian Chief Administrative Officer Richie McAllister said the city is always happy to see new businesses in Meridian.

“Any time you have new businesses and new development going on, all it does is spur growth and new development,” McAllister said. “The city appreciates any and all development, and we look forward to a great relationship and possible future development.”

Shelby said he and McKay also have plans for a second car wash.

“It’ll be in Meridian — that’s all I can say,” he said.
