ANNE MCKEE: Welcome back The Sucarnochee Revue
Published 2:31 pm Thursday, January 4, 2018
It’s back and Friday night is the night, 7 p.m., in downtown Meridian’s Temple Theatre.
In Jacky Jack’s own words:
“In 2004, Jacky Jack White had no idea that his live musical variety show the Sucarnochee Revue on the University of West Alabama campus would last for eleven years, win a Country Music Association citation, launch the career of a top selling country music artist, encourage hundreds of regional musicians and push their careers to new levels, inspire three documentaries, hatch 90 syndicated radio episodes, and two seasons of public television in several states.”
“If I had to trust in my own vision, I and a lot of folks would be walking into walls. It’s all been God’s plan and it’s been a lot of fun. January 5, 2018 and the first Friday of each month at 7 pm, Jacky Jack brings back the Sucarnochee Revue to Meridian’s historic Temple Theater. It was Roger Smith the theater owner, and others who convinced me that audiences want to see the Revue in all its glory once again. Artists such as William Michael Morgan, top musicians such as Brothers Osborne drummer Adam Box, singer/songwriters Track 45, Grammy award winners such as Wood Newton, Rock n Roll Hall of Famers such as Spooner Oldham, rockers such as Dr. Hook’s George Cummings, and American Idol’s Skylar have all graced the Sucarnochee Revue stage. The local singers and musicians give me the most pride. I’m more than satisfied if we can inspire and pass the torch on to another generation of this gifted region’s music makers.”
For Friday night’s show, billed as Meridian’s Magical Musicians, you will enjoy these talented artists: Mississippi Chris Sharp, Britt Gully, Crash Hamilton, Anna Tamburello, Sadie McClendon, Annie McClendon.
I don’t know about you but my heart warms when I see local talent on stage, exceptional talent that just happens to live in our area. I feel it is our duty, as members of the community, to come out and support.
A few of these songbirds, who we will see tonight, have graced the Temple stage many times, but then, a few are youngsters on their way to probable stardom. It is a thrilling thought to be able to witness a stellar entertainment occurrence of this magnitude.
Now don’t let a few cool temps keep you away from this, once again, inaugural event, one to surely be marked down in the laurels of history as one of the big, big musical events ever presented in the Meridian area.
So grab your big coat, woolen scarf and hat and travel downtown to the historic Temple Theatre, our old friend known for great entertainment throughout the years. It will be fun to be in the throes of an event that will be remembered for a long time.
Then don’t forget, it will happen all over again the first Friday nights in February, March, April, and each month throughout the year. Lucky for Meridian – Sucarnochee Revue is back!
