Bundle up.
The National Weather Service regional office in Jackson issued a hazardous weather advisory that warns of a hard freeze from 10 p.m. Sunday through midnight Tuesday and wind chills from midnight until 10 a.m. Monday.
Dangerously cold conditions will continue into New Years Day for Meridian and surrounding areas, though wind chills are expected to recover to above advisory levels by Monday afternoon, the weather service predicts.
The conditions are caused by an arctic cold front moving south into the region.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
Freezing weather continues through the start of the week. A series of cold fronts will bring dangerously cold air into the region beginning Sunday night and continuing well into the week, according to the weather service.
Low temperatures will fall into the teens across much of the area on multiple nights, with high temperatures struggling to get above freezing during the days.
