Girls deserve better coverage
You know way back in 1961 when I played basketball The Meridian Star would always have a big article about the boys’ game and nothing or maybe a few lines about the girls’ game.

You would think that with Title IX and how popular the girl’s game has become, especially with scholarships and the girls’ game in colleges, that newspapers would give the girls’ games equal coverage.
I think this has changed with a lot of papers. I guess The Meridian Star is still living in the 1960s. I was looking at the sports page on Saturday, Dec. 16. There were three articles about basketball games. The boys had pictures on two pages with a big article about each game. The girls had no pictures, two or three lines about some games and nothing about others. This is how It is most of the time. Their photographer will come for the boys’ game and take pictures and nothing for the girls.
This really upsets me and I’m sure that girls’ parents subscribe to this newspaper as well as boys.
It’s time for The Meridian Star to stop living in the 1960s.
