The Meridian Star’s Premier Preps of East Mississippi presented by Mississippi Power is back for its second season!

The follow-up to our 2016-17 season will kick off Dec. 24 in The Meridian Star and online at meridianstar.com with the announcement of our Premier Preps football team.

Premier Preps is an ongoing celebration of elite athletic performance by high school student-athletes within the coverage area of The Meridian Star.

“After a tremendous inaugural season, we could not be more excited to start our second season of Premier Preps. We only expect it to get bigger and better,” Publisher Alexander Gould said.

Throughout the scholastic year, The Meridian Star’s Premier Preps of East Mississippi, presented by Mississippi Power, will be announcing Premier Prep teams for boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, fast-pitch softball and baseball. Our second season will culminate with a banquet, where all Premier Prep athletes will be invited. During the presentation, at least 15 different athletes and coaches of the year will be announced for their respective sports. These additional sports highlighted will include golf, track and field and tennis.

“We are pleased to partner with The Meridian Star to recognize these hard-working and talented athletes,” Mississippi Power Division Manager Eddie Kelly said. “It is the leadership they show with their teammates and how they play the game that makes us all proud to be in Meridian.”

Players are nominated by the area coaches, and final selections of the Premier Preps teams are made by the sports staff of The Meridian Star.

“It is the tremendous support we get from local businesses that want to help celebrate the youth of our area, that makes this program a possibility,” Gould said.
