Obadiah Homemaker Volunteers members were treated to a dance performance by a local elementary school student at the club’s November meeting.

Allison Underwood, who is a fifth grader at West Lauderdale Middle School, performed a dance routine while singing the “God Bless the USA.” Allison, who is the great-granddaughter of OHV member Barbara Stinson, has been involved in dance several years.

Lou Limerick presented the devotional scripture, referencing Matthew 6:28-30.

“Matthew was a tax collector who became one of Christ’s 12 disciples,” Limerick said. “He offered a persuasive account of the Good News of Jesus, citing Old Testament evidence that supported the claims being made about Jesus by believers. It was written primarily for Jewish readers to offer irrefutable proof that the long-awaited Jewish Messiah had come.

28: “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin.

29: And, yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30: Now, if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much  more clothe you, O you of little faith?”

“God is always faithful and will meet our needs in any circumstances,” Limerick said. “Even in biblical days, many people had worries such as ours. Matthew is telling us not to worry.”

Limerick closed with prayer, remembering members and other community residents in need of healing.

Members discussed the recent 33rd Annual Arts and Crafts Show and Sale, which was held at the MCC Tommy Dulaney Center. The event was deemed a success by organizers, as nearly 1,700  patrons attended.  From dreamcatchers to jewelry, baked goods to jams and jellies, sweets to dips, ceramics to quilts and everything in between — all handmade — was for sale.

Five members participated in a recent event at the Mississippi Welcome Center, distributing homemade cookies to 183 visitors representing 14 states.

The group was reminded the annual Christmas ornament contest is open to all members and entries are due in the Lauderdale County Extension Service office by Nov. 30. Everyone was encouraged to participate to create ornaments for a tree to be displayed at the entrance Lauderdale County Court House Annex Building.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag was led by Allison Underwood. Refreshments were provided by Lou Limerick, Kathryn Daniels, Robin Doerner and Georgia Jackson.

The club’s next meeting will be Dev. 4. Members will provide items for a Christmas dinner and Dirty Santa.
