Northeast Lauderdale soccer earns sweep of Neshoba Central

Savannah Cunningham had a hat trick plus one more goal for Northeast Lauderdale as the Lady Trojans defeated the Neshoba Central Lady Rockets 5-2 in girls prep soccer action Friday night.
The Lady Trojans got the scoring started six minutes into the game with a goal by Kariyah Clemons. Neshoba Central would tie the game ten minutes later, but Northeast Lauderdale regained the lead for good with the first of Cunningham’s four. Cunningham extended the lead to 3-1 right before the half with a great shot on goal.
Cunningham added two more goals early in the second half to finish out the scoring for Northeast Lauderdale. Neshoba Central scored a late goal to make it 5-2.
Scarlet Cunningham, Hannah Cook and Lexie Henderson all contributed with assists for Northeast Lauderdale.
“The girls really showed up and did a great job,” Northeast Lauderdale coach Brant Cunningham said. “The players stepped up, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The win improves the Lady Trojans’ season record to 3-2. They will return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lauderdale County Tournament.

The Northeast Lauderdale boys completed the sweep with a win against Neshoba Central.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game with a goal by Keegan Pearson. The Rockets tied the game three minutes later, but a strong defensive by the Trojans limited the amount of shots by the Rockets for the rest of the first half.
The Trojans took the lead late in the first half courtesy of a goal by Nolan Yates.
Three minutes into the second half, the Rockets tied it up at 2, and the Trojans regained the lead 10 minutes later on Pearson’s second goal of the evening.
Pearson completed the hat trick with another goal to extend the lead to 4-2. Chap Pope added a goal shortly thereafter to finish out the 5-2 Trojan victory.
The Trojans (4-1) return to action Saturday in the Lauderdale County Tournament.
