JA of Meridian announces teacher mini-grants winners

Winners of the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian’s 2017-18 Teacher Mini-Grants have been selected.
Teachers and coaches submitted various educational programs to Junior Auxiliary to qualify for a grant totaling up to $1,500 for their proposed program, said Shelley Whitehead, a JA of Meridian spokesman.
This year’s winners are:
• Nancy Walton, fourth and fifth grades at TJ Harris, Poplar Springs and Parkview elementary schools for “Road Trip.”
• Angela Routzahan of Russell Christian Academy for “Full Steam Ahead” for the school’s Pre-K-12th grades’ arts program.
• Amanda Mowery, first grade at Parkview Elementary, for “Let’s Read in Flexible Seating.”
• Katie Bergin, volunteer girls weightlifting coach at Northeast High School, for the purchase of athletic supplies for the girls weightlifting team.
• Jennifer Boyette, K-fourth grades teacher at Northeast Elementary, for “The Only One You Rock Garden.”
• Melody Clymer, gifted education second-fourth grades at West Lauderdale Elementary School, for “Unlocking Learning by Breaking Out of the Box.”
• Carolyn Hendricks, gifted second-fifth grade at Poplar Springs Elementary School, for “Keyboarding for Kids.”
• Bridget Purdy, Shelley Whittington and Jeanna White, kindergarten at Poplar Springs Elementary School for “Osmo Cosmo.”
• Enley Long, kindergarten at Lamar Elementary, for “Apps for Academics.”
• Holly Triplett, Pre-K-fifth grade Arts Program at Lamar Elementary for “Off to See a World of A.R.T.”
A reception to honor the 2017 Junior Auxiliary Teacher Mini-Grants winners will be held Dec. 1 at 4 p.m. at First Christian Church.
