JuCo football: EMCC blows out Mississippi Delta

Top-ranked East Mississippi Community College improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the MACJC North Division with a 45-7 road win over Mississippi Delta Community College. 

The win was the Lions’ 16th consecutive, and their 27th straight in division play. EMCC returns home to host No. 3 Holmes next Thursday in Scooba for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Sullivan-Windham Field.

EMCC running back Tyrell Price rushed for a game-high 104 yards and two touchdowns and had a long of 70, while Justin Connor had 76 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. was 25 of 35 for 310 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Scott also ran for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Receiver Mike Williams ended with 85 yards and a touchdown on two receptions, and Kirk Merritt tallied four catches for 45 yards and a touchdown. Eleven Lion receivers recorded catches. 

EMCC’s Jakoby Jones forced a fumble, and Aarron Boatright added a sack. 

The Lions led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 31-0 at the half. They added a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters to round out the scoring. 

JD Smith scored MDCC’s lone touchdown with a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.
