A Lauderdale County jury Thursday found Montrell “G-Money” Croft guilty of attempted murder in a 2015 shooting tied with gang rivalries.
Police charged Croft, 27, with attempted murder, felon in possession of a firearm and participation in gang activity from a Sept. 23, 2015 shooting, arresting him a few weeks later, according to Meridian police.
Croft’s trial lasted two days and the jury took 30 minutes to deliver a guilty verdict, Meridian Police Sgt. Dareall Thompson said.
Croft, of Meridian, had a history with the Rollin 60 Crip gang and victim had an affiliation with a rival gang, Thompson said.
“We believe his intent was to kill the victim,” Thompson said. “The victim was able to identify the suspect and several more people there were out there.”
Thompson said the conviction indicated the department’s stance on gang activity.
“We’re not going to tolerate it,” Thompson said. “If someone wants to take part in gang activity, we’re serious about pushing this issue and charging people.”
The District Attorney’s office could not confirm the range of Croft’s sentencing, but Croft’s history of gang activity could impact the sentence he may receive.
