Football roundups and scores: Lamar falls short against Jackson Academy

Jackson Academy scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to come out on top of Lamar School 21-14 in Friday night prep football action.
Lamar finished the game with 299 yards of total offense, while Jackson Academy had 300.
J.T. McClelland with 20 carries for 71 yards and a 3-yard touchdown carry at the end of the second quarter. The score was 7-7 at intermission.
Quarterback Joseph Hutchinson finsihed 13-for-24 for 146 yards. Elon Presley had eight catches for 136 yards and a 43-yard touchdown pass from D.J. McGrew.
J.D. Lee finished with three catches for 22 yards and also had a fumble recovery on defense for Lamar. Both teams turned the ball over twice.
Lamar (1-2) will play at Newton High School next Friday.
STRINGER 46, CLARKDALE 8
Tyler Fant score on a 10-yard pass from Tyler McKee for a Bulldogs touchdown, but it would be Clarkdale’s only score as Stringer won convincingly.
Hunter Vick ran the two-point conversion for Clarkdale and was also the team’s leading tackler on defense with eight.
“Obviously, we didn’t play well,” Clarkdale head coach Wes Roy said. “We have a lot of work to do this week to get ready for Lake. We have hard-working kids, and I know they will respond.”
Clarkdale will host Lake at 7 p.m. next Friday.
