Matchup: Southeast Lauderdale (0-0) vs. Quitman (0-0)

Location: Southeast Lauderdale

Kickoff: 7 p.m. Friday

Notable: Quitman and Southeast Lauderdale haven’t faced off since Sept. 21, 2012. The Panthers won that matchup 55-30.

SOUTHEAST LAUDERDALE

On opening the season — “It feels good,” head coach Charles Black said. “The kids have been practicing hard, and they’re ready to roll.”

On how he feels about his team — “I feel like we’ve prepared really well,” Black said. “I think we have a pretty good group of young men, but we have a heck of a fight against us in Quitman.”

On Quitman — “I know we saw some spring film on them, and we played some 7-on-7 (competitions) against them,” Black said. “They’re good. They’re big and physical up front, and they’re fast, so we’re going to have to come with our A game. It won’t be no joke playing against them.

Keys for Southeast Lauderdale — Black said not turning the ball over and playing good defense are the two biggest keys for his team.

QUITMAN

On opening the season — Not playing a jamboree game last week leaves his team with some question marks, head coach Steve Bynum said: “We just want to see the guys run out and perform and see what they look like, but we’re excited to get on the field nevertheless.”

On how he feels about his team — “We have our young quarterbacks back, our tailbacks back and we’re returning two skill guys on offense,” Bynum said. “We’re just really excited about the year ahead of us.”

On Southeast Lauderdale — Bynum said it was extremely difficult to scout a team to start the season, since there’s no full game film from the previous week. “You’re kind of guessing off of what they’ve done last year,” Bynum said. “They played a spring game, and we did swap those films, so you get an idea, but you know how spring goes. You’re not always going to install everything you want to put in. It’s kind of just your basic stuff that you’re trying to rep, so you go into (the game) not knowing how they’ll line up in different specialty looks and stuff like that. There are a lot of question marks going in.”
