Whitney Downard / The Meridian StarA Meridian house on 28th Avenue caught fire twice over the weekend, displacing the family and heavily damaging the home.

One Meridian home caught fire twice within 24 hours, giving the family enough time to leave between fires but heavily damaging the home.

The house, on the 2100 block of 28th Avenue, caught fire Friday around 5:30 a.m., possibly caused by a window air conditioning unit, according to Meridian Fire Marshall Jason Collier.

Collier said that air conditioner damaged a power line, which may have led to the second fire.

“It appears accidental but there was heavy damage,” Collier said.

Because of the first incident on Friday, the family wasn’t in the home at the time of the second fire around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to Collier.
