- Moffite
The Meridian Police Department reported arresting a man with several warrants from Meridian, Lauderdale County and Texas.
Police arrested Derrick Moffite, 34, and charged him with kidnapping his girlfriend during an incident on March 19 earlier this year.
Moffite, from Meridian, wouldn’t allow his girlfriend to leave the car for work and forced her to return home, Thompson said, prompting the kidnapping charge.
“He led officers on a short foot chase on the 800th block of 8th Street,” Thompson said, before officers arrested Moffite Tuesday morning.
Bond for Moffite’s kidnapping charge has been set at $50,000.
Thompson said Moffite faced charges, also, from the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and a warrant for his arrest in Texas.
According to the Lauderdale County Detention Facility, Moffite faces the following charges: fugitive from justice, possession of a controlled substance with an intent to distribute, sale of methamphetamine as well as fleeing and eluding in a motor vehicle.
Bond has not been set for those charges.
