Potential landowners will have the chance to purchase parcels in Lauderdale County at the scheduled auction later this month through the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office.

The 672 properties in Lauderdale County, estimated at $3.8 million, are located in Meridian and the northern part of the county. The auction, scheduled for June 21, will be held the same day as a similar auction in Washington County.

“These online auctions are great for local communities because they make it easier for citizens to purchase property forfeited to the State for nonpayment of ad valorem taxes,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, who launched online auctions in July 2016. “Formerly neglected properties are restored to the tax rolls and money raised is distributed to cities, counties, and schools.”

Bids on the properties may be submitted until July 19 at 5 p.m. To place a bid on the online auction portal, users must register online through the Secretary of State’s website. Users can then view property details, such as location, pictures, market values and an auction map. Once the auction closes, successful bidders will be notified by email and must submit their payment within 15 days of notification.

Buyers may also skip the auction and pay a “But It Now” price on any property through the online portal.
