Super Regional: Ole Miss falls to UCLA in Game 1 in extras

Ole Miss dropped its Super Regional opener 8-7 late Thursday night at UCLA as the Bruins’ Madeline Jelenicki hit an RBI walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th inning.
The Rebels trailed early 4-0 before a five-run sixth inning put them ahead 5-4. UCLA added a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extras. Ole Miss did manage to take a 7-5 lead in the top of the 10th, but the Bruins scored two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to send the game into the 11th.

Kaitlin Lee started for Ole Miss and went the distance, giving up eight runs, seven earned, on 14 hits with three walks and one strikeout. Elantra Cox was the Rebels’ only multiple hitter, going 2-for-6. Brittany Finney had a two-run nome run for the Rebels, and Newton County product Ashton Lampton got a hit.
Rachel Garcia got the win for UCLA, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on 11 hits with five walks and 12 strikeouts. Delaney Spaulding went 3-for-5 for the Bruins, and Brianna Tautalafua finished 3-for-6. Jelenicki and Garcia were both 2-for-5, as were Gabrielle Maurice and Bubba Nickles.
Game 2 between Ole Miss (43-19) and UCLA (46-13) is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday.
