Five months after pleading guilty to illegally possessing a gun, a Lauderdale County man is headed to federal prison.
Marvin Naylor, 46, of Daleville, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate, to 120 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also ordered to pay a $1500 fine.
Naylor pleaded guilty on January 9 to possessing three firearms at a time while he was already a convicted felon, according to a press release.
In November 2015, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, along with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, executed an arrest and search warrant on Naylor’s home. During the search and arrest, law enforcement officers found three firearms, two of which were stolen, along with several rounds of ammunition. Naylor was arrested and admitted to possessing the firearms.
At the time of his 2015 arrest, Naylor also faced numerous felony charges, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
Officers uncovered approximately six grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, five assorted weapons and other stolen property during the raid, according to the MBN.
In addition to the firearms charges, Naylor was also charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a bowie knife by a convicted felon, as well as possession of stolen firearms. Naylor also faced sale of methamphetamine charges stemming from MBN cases opened earlier in the year, according to the MBN.
The Department of Human Services was notified at the time that Naylor also faced child endangerment charges. He allegedly sold and possessed methamphetamine, needles and other drug paraphernalia in the residence in the presence of an 8-month-old boy and a 4-year-old boy, according to the MBN.
The firearms case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives along with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin Jr.
