BMW driver flees after crashing into carousel horse, trees in Meridian

Cheryl Owens / The Meridian StarAfter a wreck in downtown Meridian Monday night, the remains of a carousel horse and uprooted trees in front of First State Bank at 22nd Avenue and 9th Street show the extent of damage. 

Meridian police are searching for a person who was involved in a wreck late Monday night in downtown Meridian.

Police received an alert shortly before 10 p.m. from On-Star vehicle stating airbags had been deployed, Meridian Police Sgt. Dareall Thompson said.

Thompson said officers discovered a black BMW had crashed in front of First State Bank at 22nd Avenue and 8th Street. The vehicle demolished the carousel horse in front of the bank and uprooted several trees along the street before it stopped.

Witnesses told police the suspected driver was impaired and they were able to provide an accurate description of the driver and the car he left in, Thompson said.

Once the suspect is located he will face charges, Thompson said.
