- Neshoba Central’s Elleigh Willis beats the throw to Saltillo’s Reese Vanlandingham for a steal of second base Monday night.
Aspen Wesley tossed yet another no-hitter and was one walk shy of a perfect game as Neshoba Central shut out Saltillo 3-0 in MHSAA Class 5A postseason softball action.
Wesley threw 80 pitches — 64 for strikes — and struck out 18 Saltillo batters in seven innings of work to capture the win for the Lady Rockets in Game 1 of the third-round, best-of-three series.
No one for Neshoba Central had multiple hits, but Tenly Grisham was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while Makenzie Barnett had an RBI. Both Grisham and Barnett hit triples, and Rivers Gary went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Neshoba Central (25-2) will travel to Saltillo Tuesday for Game 2. Game 3, if necessary, will immediately follow the second game.
