Neighbors: Library Week continues with a fun day

Wrapping up National Library Week, April 9-15, the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library held a fun day on Friday.

Children were treated to jumpers, games, popcorn, hotdogs, drinks and other treats. The Meridian Fire Department was on hand with firetrucks and equipment and DARE officer Erica Harmon talked with children about her job.

Arts team visits D.C.

Four members of the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child Community Arts Team in Meridian attended the annual exchange meeting in Washington, D.C.

Meghan Miller, Amy Carter, Charlotte Tabereaux and Lloyd Gray met with representatives of 22 other sites in the United States to share ideas and plans for their missions to assist their communities in developing and implementing a plan for expanded arts education in their schools, ensuring access and equity for all students in grades Pre-K-8.

Golf supports scouts

On May 19, the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club will host a 4 Man Scramble on the Azaleas Course as participants and volunteers remember long time Scout Joseph L. “Joe” Brown

Proceeds from the event will help support the Boy Scouts of America Choctaw Area Council’s mission of scouting in the areas of East Mississippi and West Alabama. Their mission is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law with an importance on serving God and others, staying physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

Knight graduates basic training

U.S. Air Force Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Logan Knight graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Knight is the son of Robert and Mev Knight of Meridian, brother of Kelsi Harmon of Meridian, and grandson of Jeanette Thrash of Decatur. He is a 2011 graduate of Lamar School.
