Area baseball, softball teams make MHSAA postseason

A number of area baseball and softball teams made the MHSAA playoffs in their respective spots.

BASEBALL
The MHSAA baseball postseason uses a best-of-three series structure in each round, where the higher-seeded team hosts Game 1 Friday, travels for Game 2 Saturday and would host Game 3 on Monday, if necessary.
In Class 5A baseball, Neshoba Central earned a first-round bye and will play a three-game series beginning April 28 against the winner of the New Hope-Lake Cormorant series.
Both West Lauderdale and Northeast Lauderdale secured spots in the Class 4A baseball postseason. Northeast Lauderdale will host Forrest County Agricultural High School for a three-game set beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. West Lauderdale will host Columbia for a three-game series starting at 7 p.m. Friday.
Southeast Lauderdale will host Port Gibson for a three-game set beginning at 7 Friday night in Class 3A playoff action. Choctaw Central also made the postseason and will play at Wesson beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
In Class 2A, Union will travel to Enterprise-Lincoln for a three-game series starting at 7 p.m. Friday, while Clarkdale will host West Lincoln beginning at 7 Friday night. Enterprise-Clarke hosts Prentiss for a three-game set beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.

SOFTBALL
The MHSAA softball postseason uses a best-of-three series structure in each round, where the higher-seeded team travels to the lower-seeded team for Game 1 Friday before hosting Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 Saturday.
In the Class 6A playoffs, Meridian will play Hancock in a three-game series beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
In Class 5A, Neshoba Central earned a first-round bye and will play Lake Cormorant for a three-game set beginning April 25.
In Class 4A Newton County earned a bye and will play the winner of the Florence-Poplarville series beginning April 25. Northeast Lauderdale will play Pass Christian in a three-game set starting Friday. West Lauderdale will play Corinth in a three-game set beginning Friday for its playoff opener.
In Class 3A, Kemper County will play Booneville in a three-game set beginning Friday, and Philadelphia earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of the Magee-Tylertown series beginning April 25. Choctaw Central will play Seminary for a three-game set starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
In Class 2A, Enterprise got a first-round bye and will play the winner of the Puckett-West Lincoln series beginning April 25. Union will play Our Lady Academy in a three-game set beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.
