College baseball roundups: Ole Miss beats Alabama, clinches weekend series

Tate Blackman hit a walkoff home run for Ole Miss as the Rebels beat Alabama for the second straight night, capturing the three-game series Saturday.

Will Golsan went 2-for-4 for Ole Miss, while Nick Fortes finished 3-for-4. Dallas Woolfolk got the win in relief for the Rebels, going 1 2/3 innings, surrendering no runs, hits or walks. David Parkinson started for Ole Miss, pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Former West Lauderdale standout Will Stokes pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up no runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two.

Cody Henry and Chandler Taylor both went 2-for-4 for Alabama. Nick Eicholtz started for Alabama, giving up four runs on six hits with four walks and one strikeout. Garrett Suchey suffered the loss in relief, surrendering one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

MISSISSIPPI ST. 10, KENTUCKY 6

Mississippi State bounced back after Friday’s loss to No. 13 Kentucky, topping the Wildcats to tie the weekend SEC series at 1-1.

Brent Rooker was a perfect 4-for-4, while Ryan Gridley finished 2-for-5. Both Cody Brown and Hunter Stovall went 2-for-4.

Cole Gordon started for the Bulldogs, going four innings and giving up three runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

SOUTHERN MISS 5, FIU 1

Hayden Roberts, Colt Smith and Nick Sandlin combined to hold Florida International to one run as Southern Miss captured the series with a 5-1 win Saturday.

Roberts went 4 2/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Smith got the win in relief, going three innings and surrendering just two hits while striking out three. Sandlin got the save, giving up no runs in 1 1/3 innings while striking out three.

Dylan Burdeaux went 2-for-5 for the Golden Eagles, while Storme Cooper finished 2-for-4. Former Southeast Lauderdale standout Mason Irby went hitless for Southern Miss.
