LAUREL — It wasn’t pretty, but Northeast Lauderdale coach Josh Snider will take it.

In a game filled with errors and several missed opportunities, Northeast Lauderdale held off Northeast Jones 8-6 in a crucial Region 5-4A matchup at Tiger Field Friday night.

With the win, the Trojans (11-8, 5-3 Region 5-4A) have the inside track at the No. 2 seed heading into the playoffs if they sweep Quitman next week.

Northeast Jones (8-10, 3-5) must now sweep Mendenhall next week to get into the playoffs.

“We are very fortunate to come outta here with a win,” Snider said. “We had opportunities to put the game away, and didn’t. We’d score run and then they’d score two.”

The Trojans scored five runs in the top of the second inning to build a 5-1 lead that was highlighted by a two-run single by Chase Moore.

Moore would have three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs to lead Northeast Lauderdale offensively.

“Chase started out the season struggling and has worked his way back into the line up, and I could not be more proud of him,” Snider said. “He hustles, he never complains, and just does his job.”

Landon Harper (5-3) got the win on the mound for the Trojans lasting five innings. He gave up five hits, five earned runs and struck out four.

“He got himself into situations and then got himself out of those situations and I’m proud of him for that,” Snider said. “ (He) fought through adversity and kept his head up.”

“We ain’t guaranteed a playoff spot just yet,” Snider added. “We still have to go out against Quitman and our district is jumbled up and we got to take care of business.”

Cameron Jones had three hits and three RBIs to lead Northeast Jones. Miles Smith added two hits for the Tigers.

Reid Reynolds (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Northeast Jones.

“We had our chances and didn’t take advantage,” Northeast Jones coach Jeremy Parker said. “I told the guys we got to win twice next week or we will be at the house come playoff time.”
