That streak might becoming to an end, but some things must have to happen.
Behind a stellar pitching performance from Greyson Seghini, the Tigers shutout Newton County 2-0 in a key Region 5-4A matchup Thursday night.
“Greyson hasn’t pitched bad for us all year. It’s been we haven’t been able to hit, and tonight we actually did that,” Mendenhall coach Ryan Neely said. “We’ve been in close games pretty much all season and it feels good to finally win two this week over a good Newton County team.”
Mendenhall pitcher Greyson Seghini tossed a complete game two-hitter with seven strikeouts.
The Tigers (5-13, 4-4 Region 5-4A) got their
first run in the bottom of first on a groundout, and their second run on a double by Brody Hill in the bottom of fourth.

“I’m just so proud of the kids for playing hard tonight,” Neely said. “It’s been a frustrating year, and to beat a team like that is big for our program.”
Alec Ivey took the loss on the mound for Newton County (12-8, 4-4).
“Mendenhall cashed in on its opportunities and we didn’t,” Newton
County coach Wyatt Tullos said.
There are four teams (Mendenhall, Newton County, NE Lauderdale and NE Jones) fighting for three playoff spots. The scenario for Mendenhall and Newton County aren ow pretty simple.
For Newton County, it must beat West Lauderdale at least one time next week, and would need Northeast Jones to sweep Mendenhall to get in. If Mendenhall wins at least one game against Northeast Jones next week, it will get in due to having tiebreaker over Newton County.
