Whitney Downard / The Meridian StarA man crashed into the dividing wall between City Hall's lawn and the sidewalk after a vehicle chase with the Meridian Police Department.

A vehicle chase ended in a crash at City Hall around midnight Tuesday.

The Meridian Police Department received a call shortly before midnight Tuesday from a woman who said her boyfriend was shooting at her from another car, Meridian Police Sgt. Dareall Thompson said.

Police said they didn’t find evidence to support that statement but when an officer pulled behind the vehicle the man, identified as Thomas McClean, fled.

Thompson said the vehicle chase started on the 4700 block of 1st Street and ended in a wreck in front of City Hall, destroying a portion of the dividing wall between City Hall’s lawn and the sidewalk near 24th Avenue and 7th Street. McClean, 23, attempted to run from officers but was quickly arrested, Thompson said.

Police found a weapon inside of McClean’s vehicle, Thompson said.
