Fifty-six Meridian Community College students were tapped to be included in the inaugural class of the National Technical Honor Society.

To become members of this chapter of NTHS, students must attain an overall grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and be enrolled in a career/technical education program or major, they must have completed 12 hours of credit at MCC, must maintain attendance as required and defined in the student handbook for each program, must be active in their local career and technical education student organization and must be approved by at least one of their program faculty.

NTHS strives to bring recognition, scholarship and career opportunities who excel in career and technical education fields as their profession, said Dr. Richie McAlister, associate vice president for workforce education.

“Not only do NTHS student embody all the attributes and talent which is in demand today, these students also embrace a clear vision for tomorrow’s workforce and their role in it,” McAlister said addressing the audience of members and family and friends.

“This is a great achievement and we are very proud of these students,” he noted.

Echoing McAlister’s comments were MCC President Dr. Scott Elliott.

“You’re on a great path that will lead you to a great career,” Elliott said, later adding, “By qualifying for this honor society, you’re leading the pack. Keep it up.”

“This is no small feat to be nominated for this organization,” said Terry Cullum, who serves as a co-advisor to NTHS. Lori Smith is also an advisor.
