Auditions Monday for '9 to 5: The Musical'

Auditions for 9 to 5: The Musical, the final show of MLT’s 84th season, will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the playhouse on Highway 39 North.

Based on the 1980 hit movie of the same name, this fast-paced, witty and uplifting show features music and lyrics by American singer, songwriter and actress Dolly Parton.

Set in the late 1970s, the plot centers on three female co-workers, who pushed to the boiling point, concoct a plan to get even with their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot” boss, MLT Executive Director Ronnie Miller said.

Those auditioning are asked to bring a very brief prepared song, participate in cold readings and a simple dance movement session, Miller said.

The cast consists of four female leads, one male lead, six-eight featured men, six-eight featured women and women’s and men’s ensembles.  character ages range from 15 (Violet’s son) to 65-70 (Mr. Tinsworthy, president of the company) and “nearly every age in between,” Miller said.
