Larry Jones is employed by the Mississippi Power Company, a dedicated member of The Historical First Union Missionary Baptist Church, located at 610 38th Ave. in Meridian, for many years, and is a multi-talented individual who is a valuable member of the church community and neighborhood.

Mr. Jones is the superintendent of Sunday School and constantly encourages our youth, as well as their parents, grandparents and all members and nonmembers of the church to attend and participate in Sunday School, church services and special events and programs. Larry sings in several choirs of the church: adult choir, male chorus, angelic choir and on occasions, sings a solo. He serves as the media ministry specialist and video records special church programs for members, guest, and the sick and shut-in members.

While in the United States Army, Larry was interested and trained in electronics and because of this background, he volunteered to accept the responsibilities of making sure the church sound equipment, speakers, microphones and sound boards are properly set for Sunday services and special programs.

In celebration of Black Awareness Month in February, Larry shares his collection of educational tapes and movies each Saturday with the youth, their friends and other youth in the neighborhood.

He is always willing to bring his barbecue grill during our church picnics for the youth and cooks for church members.

Larry accepted the position of FUBC Scout Master and under his leadership, he spent his summer vacations at Camp Binachi with his Troop #125 so they could earn enough badges for the distinguished Eagle Award, the highest award in Boy Scouts. Three of his young men received the Eagle award before the demands of his job caused him to resign from the position.

Mr. Jones is married to Sandra Sims Jones and supports her 100 percent while she cares for her mom. There is also mutual support from Sandra with the many activities Larry is involved in and the demands of his job. Larry is an Unsung Hero and role model for the above reasons and many, many more examples of volunteer services and good deeds.
