2 injured in jet crash at NAS Meridian

A T-45C Goshawk aircraft crash occurred at Naval Air Station Meridian at 1:53 p.m. Tuesday, according to NAS officials.

The aircraft is assigned to Training Air Wing One, the agency said in a news release.

The incident occurred off the east runway on board the installation. Two aircrew members ejected and are receiving medical attention for injuries. They were take to a local hospital, where they were in stable condition. 

Another T-45C Goshawk crashed last September in the same area; the student and instructor pilot ejected near the airfield. They were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment for their injuries and released the same day. 

The aircraft is used for intermediate and advanced portions of the Navy/Marine Corps pilot training program for jet carrier aviation and tactical strike missions, according to the U.S. Navy Fact File website.

The aircraft was valued in 2009 at $17.2 million, according to the Navy Fact File website.
