Meridian man charged following high-speed chase

A Meridian man is facing two counts of felony fleeing and other traffic citations after leading law enforcement officers on a chase Saturday night.

Michael French was arrested and sent to the Lauderdale County Detention Center, Meridian Police Sgt. Dareall Thompson said.

The pursuit began around 8 p.m. on B Street around 8 p.m. when an officer was attempting to make a traffic stop, Thompson said. The chase continued on Highway 11/80 with speeds near 80 MPH before ending on Homestead Road, where the driver of the pickup, French, jumped out of the vehicle, Thompson said.

The Meridian Police Department along with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department and the Marion Police Department were instrumental in the arrest, Thompson said.
