Shots were fired at officers with the East Mississippi Drug Task Force who were in the process of investigating recent robberies Thursday in the southeast part of the county.
The incident happened around noon at a residence on Greenhill Road which is south of Toomsuba, Lauderdale County Sheriff Billie Sollie said. The East Mississippi Drug Task Force was helping the Lauderdale County Criminal Investigation Division to locate possible suspects who were involved in recent burglaries, Sollie said.
When officers came upon three individuals, one of the suspects threw a gun down while two other suspects ran to the wood line. They commenced to fire shots at deputies, and the deputies fired back, Sollie said.
No law enforcement officers were struck and no one was injured in the incident, Sollie said.
One individual was taken into custody and investigators are continuing to search for the other two suspects.
The sheriff asks anyone with information that help investigators to call the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department (601) 482-9819, or the East Mississippi Crimestoppers line (855) 485-8477.
