A brother and sister died in a house fire Thursday in York, Ala.

 

Jerrod Howard, 25, and sister Mya Howard, 13, died around 4:45 a.m. when a fire engulfed their home on 2021 Bennett Road.

“The fire was already involved in the center of the house when the initial fire crews arrived,” said Fire Capt. Dennis Hopper, of the City of Livingston Fire Department. 

Hopper said that the father, a truck driver, was on-the-road and the mother had left for work about 90 minutes before the fire.

Autopsies and reports are pending and not likely to be released until sometime next week, Hopper said.

“The investigation is still pending with the State Fire Marshals office,” Hopper said. 

Hopper said the fire gutted the home.
