New sign, holiday plans featured at Bonita Lakes Mall

Holiday shoppers will soon be greeted by new signs at the entrance of Bonita Lakes Mall and another new sign at Bonita Lakes Crossing, adjacent to the mall.

Bonita Lakes Mall General Manager Renee Williams said demolition of the old signs is scheduled for next week and installation of the new signage will follow.

RockStep Capital, which acquired Bonita Lakes Mall and the adjacent Bonita Lakes Crossing in May, has added four new businesses.

New businesses in the mall include Red, a women’s clothing store; Frozen Sweet Ice Cream; and American Deli. Ollie’s Bargain Outlet opened in Bonita Lakes Crossing. Also, Ashley HomeStore is expanding its Bonita Lakes Crossing location. The expansion is projected to be ready by spring.

“It’s all going great. We’re actively pursuing new retailers,” Williams said. “We’re still progressing.”

RockStep Capital, a Houston-based real estate firm, is the general partner for an investment group that purchased nine properties along Bonita Lakes Boulevard. RockStep is headed by President Andy Weiner.

Williams said the new signage will replace three signs at the entrance to the mall. Another new sign will be located at Bonita Lakes Crossing. She said demolition of the old signs is scheduled this week. The work is being done by Meridian’s Mitchell Signs.

Weiner said vision for the future include a casual mall restaurant and movie theater upgrade to include luxury reclining seats.

Williams said among upcoming holiday entertainment at the mall are Cookies, Milk and Crafts from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 2; Holiday Open House from 6-8 p.m. Dec. 4; and Paws and Claws, an opportunity for pet owners to take photos with Santa Claus, from 6-9 p.m. All the stores will be open for business.

Williams said the mall will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and will reopen at 6 a.m. for Black Friday. Department stores, restaurants, the theater and retailers with exterior entrances have the option to be open on Thanksgiving Day. Mall anchors include Dillards, JCPenney, Sears, Belk and United Artists Theater 9.

Dillards will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and reopens from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. JC Penney is open on Thanksgiving at 3 p.m. and remains open until 10 p.m. Friday. Sears will open at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Belk is open from 4-11 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Walmart Supercenter near Bonita Lakes is open 24 hours and has a 6 p.m. sale on Thanksgiving. The Walmart Supercenter on Highway 19 is open from 6 a.m. to midnight on Thanksgiving and opens the next day at 6 a.m. Geoffrey’s, located at Bonita Lakes Circle, opens at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving and doesn’t close until 11 p.m. on Friday.
