Meridian Veterans Day parade, service lunch salute veterans, military families

Veterans and their spouses were honored Friday morning at a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Doughboy Monument in downtown Meridian.

The Ladies Auxiliaries placed wreaths, the Meridian Police Department’s Rifle Team fired a 21-gun salute and Ron Smith played Taps. Algie Davis led the Pledge of Allegiance and Terry Pankhurst sang the national anthem.

Dignitaries were introduced by Van McCarty, who introduced guest speaker Murry Toney.

A noon luncheon was held at VFW Post No. 79 on Highway 80 W. 

A Veterans Day Parade stepped off at 3 p.m. Friday in downtown Meridian.
